Multiple-Horse Accident At Yonkers Raceway, 4 Drivers Injured

Due to the accident, the final race on the program was canceled. MGM Yonkers Raceway said that racing is scheduled to resume on Monday.

YONKERS, NY — During Friday night's eighth race at the MGM Yonkers Raceway, a multiple-horse accident took place, leading to a no contest being declared, according to a statement from the company.

Due to the accident, the final race on the program was canceled.

MGM Yonkers Raceway said that racing is scheduled to resume on Monday, Nov. 20. Yonkers will also have a card on Tuesday, Nov. 21 before the track closes the rest of the week for Thanksgiving.

"We can confirm an accident took place during the eighth race at Yonkers Raceway on Friday, November 17, 2023, in which the leading horse in the race stumbled and fell, causing a collision with the trailing horses and drivers in the race," an Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts spokesperson said on Saturday afternoon. "Equine athletes were examined and determined unharmed; however, four drivers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are expected to recover. The safety of our horses and drivers is always our top priority, and we are grateful to all racing officials and team members, first responders, and the racing community at-large for their continued support of these athletes."

  • Oaxacan Dream N and Jim Marohn Jr.
  • Two Proud and Matt Kakaley
  • Man Dontforget Me and Bob Di Nozz
  • Silent Crossing and Tyler Buter
