Parade And Ceremony To Be Held For Mount Vernon Knights Friday

The city will gather to honor the high school team becoming the undefeated 2022 Class AA New York State champions.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon is developing a reputation as a city of champions. The parade route used to celebrate conquering heroes triumphantly returning home is starting to feel like a familiar victory lap, but Friday's planned celebration somehow feels extra special.

On March 19, the Mount Vernon Knights basketball team defeated Green Tech, 55-45, to become the 2022 Class AA New York State champions.

The City of Mount Vernon will be holding a parade and ceremony on Friday to celebrate the team being the undefeated state champions.

The Mount Vernon City School District and Board of Educators will meet with the athletes for breakfast at the high school at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m., a VIP motorcade will leave from Mount Vernon High School with the Mount Vernon Knights Basketball Team, faculty and city officials. It will visit each school across the city before the ceremony to be held at Mount Vernon City Hall. Among the signs held up to celebrate the players, each school will create its own special signs with the names of the specific team members who were former students.

A brief ceremony will be held at City Hall around 3:00 p.m. for the team and their coaches.
