The new Target will be the first in the city of Yonkers. A ribbon-cutting was held on Tuesday.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano previously said the city's planning and development staff worked with Marx Realty to bring a "town square" concept to the center's open-air design.
"Yonkers has hit the mark with Target's plan for a new store at Cross County Center," he said. "Target's decision to invest in our city is a testament to the retailer's confidence in our thriving economy and our business-friendly environment."
The store will also have a CVS pharmacy and Starbucks inside. Customers will be able to add Starbucks menu items to their Drive-Up order and have it delivered to their car for free. Find out more information about the Drive-Up service here.
In addition, the new store will have unique architectural features, such as locally sourced reclaimed wood, large windows and a more open layout to allow natural light to flow through.
Other Westchester Target locations include Mount Vernon, Mount Kisco, Port Chester and White Plains. Target says that the Yonkers location will be its 99th store in the NYC metro area market, which it first entered in 1997. The company operates almost 2,000 stores across the country, with plans to open 20 stores of various sizes.
In the NY area last year, Target donated more than $10 million in cash and products, including over 4.8 million pounds of food to local food banks, and their team members volunteered over 32,000 hours in the community.
The company says it is committed to providing team members with the most rewarding careers. Since 2017, they have invested in pay and benefits that include a $15-$24 per hour starting wage range, tuition-free education assistance, access to counseling services and doctors and more stable schedules.
