Unlicensed Driver In Fatal 100 MPH Cross County Crash Pleads Guilty

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A guilty plea was entered in court by an unlicensed Mount Vernon driver who killed two people and injured a third when he crashed his vehicle on the Cross County Parkway in 2021.

Anthony Rose, 21, was promised a sentence in state prison of 2-1/2 to 7-1/2 years after pleading guilty Thursday to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault, the Journal News reported.

Prosecutors said, shortly before 5:30 a.m., Dec. 18, 2021, Rose drove without a license and with his headlights off, in excess of 100 mph with three passengers in his car on the Cross County Parkway. He nearly hit one car, struck a second vehicle and ultimately crashed head-on into a tree.

Mount Vernon resident Noelina Pantaleon, 20, died at the scene, and Mount Vernon resident Harry Jonathan Hurst, 19, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he remained with a traumatic brain injury until he died on March 7, 2022. A third passenger, Nyaquae Henderson, 20, of Mount Vernon, was taken to the hospital and treated for a traumatic brain injury.
