Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: 8th Annual Wakanda Celebration

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Wakanda Celebration
Volunteers are needed to assist with the 8th Annual Wakanda Celebration outdoor event and cultural experience in Mount Vernon. Volunteers can support event setup and teardown, registration, art exhibition, food and beverage service, gift shop sales, and more. All volunteers must participate in an orientation on select dates.
Date: 8/30 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; registration ends 8/10

Health Appointment Drivers
Volunteer Drivers are needed to provide their older or vision-impaired neighbors with a ride to and/or from their physical therapy or non-emergency health appointments. Volunteers can offer as few or as many rides as they'd like, and bilingual volunteers are especially welcome! Drivers are reimbursed for mileage and can receive supplemental auto insurance, reimbursement for defensive driving courses, and more. Must be 21+.

Youth Mentors
Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister is all about sharing simple activities with a child that become hallmark moments in their lives. It could be taking a hike, visiting the zoo, going apple picking or a walk in the park, playing basketball, or just grabbing a slice of pizza. Each can have profound life- and skill-building effects for the "Little." All training is provided; mentors must be 18+.
Date: Monthly; flexible schedule

Tax Aide Counselors
Tax Aide Counselors provide free income tax return preparation and answers tax questions for low- to middle-income and older taxpayers in the community. All training is provided and no tax experience is needed. Volunteers must be 18+.
