Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Bilingual Translators
Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Volunteer Translators (Portuguese)
Bilingual volunteers are needed to assist American Red Cross instructors during the Prepare the Town event in Mount Vernon. Instructors will be delivering disaster preparedness trainings in English, and Volunteer Translators will be translating this instruction to Portuguese-speaking attendees. Volunteers may also be asked to help greet Portuguese-speaking guests as they arrive and direct them to the training rooms. Volunteers MUST be 18+, fluent in Portuguese and English, and be able to attend the mandatory orientation the week of Nov. 27.
Date: Dec. 2 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.; registration closes on 11/27

Pizza Party Volunteers
The Knolls is seeking volunteers to help with a Pizza Party for its senior residents. Volunteers will assist with the line dancing activity, serve pizza during the party, and assist with setup and cleanup. Volunteers must be 21+.
Date: Dec. 3 from 3-7 p.m.

Help Santa Serve Hot Cocoa and Cookies
Help light the kinara, menorah and Christmas tree during New Rochelle's Holiday Lighting event. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served, and the evening ends with a special appearance from Santa himself, who will be escorted by the New Rochelle Fire Department on his very own fire truck. Volunteers are needed to help set up and serve hot cocoa and cookies to guests, as well as assist Santa by keeping his red carpet clear for his arrival. Santa will also need some help with crowd control as children wait for candy canes and pictures. This is an outdoor event, so please dress warmly! Santa and elf hats will be provided to volunteers.

Tax Prep Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist neighbors in Putnam County with tax preparation programs. Activities include greeting clients and performing initial checks to ensure they have the correct documentation for their tax appointments; preparing federal and state tax returns for local residents; answering questions and booking appointments for the free tax service.
