Woman Found Shot To Death In Car On Cross County Is ID'd By Authorities

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Westchester County police have released the identity of the woman found dead in her car on the Cross County Parkway on Sunday.

Around 8 a.m. on Sunday, a Westchester County Police Department patrol officer responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the Cross County Parkway just before the Broad Street exit. A woman was found dead behind the wheel of the car.

Police have identified the woman as 33-year-old Ariela Mejia-Polanco, who has addresses in Westchester and Rockland counties.

An initial investigation determined that Mejia-Polanco was likely targeted and her death was not a random act. The homicide remains under investigation by detectives from the General Investigations Unit.

WCPD say that they are being assisted by other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies during the continuing investigation. Additional details are not being disclosed at this time.
