​Yonkers Downtown BID Celebrates Spring with April Events

The annual Saw Mill River clean up, Ella Fitzgerald's 100th birthday party, and other festivities are happening. Read on for details.

From Yonkers Downtown BID: Yonkers Downtown BID is kicking-off spring with a roster of events for the entire family. The arrival of longer days is an opportunity to get out and enjoy the community right here in Yonkers.

“Spring is here and it’s a great time to explore and be part of all the fun activities and destinations our revitalized waterfront district has to offer. Be part of it,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

Grab a bite to eat at one of the amazing downtown restaurants or simply stroll along the waterfront and take in the spring scenery. From an Easter Egg Hunt with the kids to An Evening of song celebrating the legendary Ella Fitzgerald, the spring season in Yonkers has something for visitors and residents of all ages.

“April is a great time to enjoy our waterfront with family and friends,” said Jaime Martinez, Yonkers Downtown BID Executive Director. “Activities take place all month long from our first annual Easter Egg Hunt to a musical celebration of Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th Birthday. There is truly something for everyone.”

  • Groundwork 8th Annual Saw Mill River Clean Up – April 22nd

Join this feel good community event on April 22nd from 10 am – 1 pm by volunteering to clean up the Saw Mill. For opportunities to sponsor or volunteer, please contact Nathan Hunter at Nathan@groundworkhv.org or 914-375-2151.

  • Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th Birthday Party – April 25th

The first lady of song would have turned 100 on April 25th. Join her hometown celebration at the Children’s Department of the Yonkers Riverfront Library from 4 pm – 5:30 pm. Event will feature live jazz, birthday cake and more!

  • Saturday Family Movie at Philipse Manor Hall: The Jungle Book (2016)

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site invites the public to get out of the house and enjoy free films in the site's Gothic Chamber. Part of the Saturday Family Movie Series, come see the Jungle Book at 3 p.m. Viewers will get to see the 2016 live action remake of the tale of Mowgli, the "man cub" raised by a wolfpack, and his encounters with Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan and other creatures of the jungle. Attendees on Apr. 29 will get to vote on which film will be shown in May.
