ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A fundraiser for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign is no longer taking place Thursday evening at the Crown Hotel in Suffern, and protesters are taking credit.

The event, a $6,600-per-guest reception and dinner, appears to have been moved to an undisclosed location, The Journal News reported.

Community leaders from a dozen groups who had organized a protest at the fundraiser called it off.

"The Get Gone Ron Coalition fights back against Ron DeSantis' irrational ‘Florida blueprint’, right-wing extremist agenda, and dogmatic laws," Maryellen Novak, a member of the Get Gone Ron Coalition, said in a news release. "DeSantis’ change of plans is a victory that proves activists are a strong force, and that grassroots organizing is a powerful communication tool."

Rockland Republican Committee Chairman Lawrence Garvey told POLITICO he was disappointed he had not heard from the DeSantis campaign before it sent out the initial flier for the event.
