Nanuet Teen Charged with Assault, DWI after Hit-and-Run Crash

A 19-year-old Nanuet man captured on a NJ Transit train after a hit-and-run car crash in Nanuet Saturday morning is charged with assault, reckless driving and drunk driving, according to Clarkstown Police.

Ryan Barron is accused of injuring a 59-year-old Pearl River man at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Wald Pavillion, 225 S. Middletown Road, where police said the 1998 Ford he was driving hit a parked 2009 Ford, pushed that car into a 1996 Honda and the pedestrian who was standing between the two cars.

Barron is accused of driving away and going to the Nanuet train station, where police said he boarded a southbound train. A witness who saw the crash followed Barron and called police.

Clarkstown police contacted NJ Transit and stopped the train at the Montvale, NJ, station.  The train doors were secured and investigating officers boarded the train. 

Barron was identified and removed from the train without incident.

Police said Barron had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and a chemical breath test for alcohol was positive for the presence of alcohol. Barron was arrested, taken to Clarkstown Police Headquarters in New City and held for arraignment.

Barron was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, driving while intoxicated, third-degree assault, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment, all misdemeanors.

The pedestrian sustained injuries to his face and body and was transported to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

Police from Orangetown, Montvale, NJ, and Park Ridge, NJ, assisted with the investigation.
