Nanuet Bomb Threat Specifies Monday

The handwritten message found Wednesday afternoon on a first floor boys bathroom wall in Nanuet High School specifies Monday morning is when a bomb will explode. The threat stated the explosion would occur during third period which runs from 8:55 a.m. to 9:36 a.m. School Superintendent Mark McNeill released additional information about the bomb threat in an email to parents today.

“The message indicated that ‘when the 3rd period bell rings this school will blow up & everyone will remember 9/23’.” 

McNeil wrote that Clarkstown police are continuing their investigation and at this time do not believe the threat is credible. Police officers will conduct a thorough search of the school before classes begin on Monday and expected to remain in the building through the first half of the school day.

The Clarkstown police and the superintendent’s office did not respond to Patch’s requests for additional information.

Dear Parents:

This is an update of yesterday’s bulletin.  The investigation, in conjunction with the Clarkstown Police Department, continues.  The threat mentioned in the K-12 alert you received yesterday was a scrawled message on a High School boys’ bathroom wall.  The message indicated that “when the 3 rd period bell rings this school will blow up & everyone will remember 9/23.” 

While this is new to Nanuet, the Clarkstown Police Department has years of dealing with this type of threat.  Based on the information that police and school officials have gained to date, the threat is not credible. 

Our plan for Monday is to have the Clarkstown Police and school officials jointly do a thorough check of the High School prior to the start of school.  The police will also remain through most of the morning. 

The investigation will continue and the K-12 system will provide updates as appropriate.
