NEW YORK CITY — More than 1,600 of New York City's public housing residents are slated to lose heat Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to dip below freezing, and as the city prepares for an onslaught of snow.

New York City's Housing Authority has planned repairs at five buildings in Manhattan, The Bronx and Brooklyn that will leave 1,631 without heat on Nov. 12, even as the city issued a snow alert and forecasters predict temperatures as low as 25 degrees Fahrenheit, records show.

Campos Plaza II and Fulton Houses in Manhattan, Castle Hill in The Bronx and the Whitman Houses in Brooklyn will all see hundreds of residents lose heat, NYCHA's service overview website reported at 2:45 p.m.

Another planned outage that would have left more than 3,000 people in The Bronx's Sonia Sotomayor Houses without heat Tuesday was rescheduled Monday for Nov. 15, records show.

The NYCHA press office responded to Patch's request for confirmation by noting the office was closed for Veteran's Day.

Redmond Haskins, a spokesperson for The Legal Aid Society, called on the city agency to reschedule all the outages.

“These repairs should not happen on frigid days when NYCHA residents need working heat and hot water the most,” said Haskins. “The Housing Authority must clearly do a better job to prioritize and complete this work ahead of the heat season instead of waiting until the last minute.”
