6 People Shot During Shooting At NYC Store: Police

A 12-year-old girl was shot in the leg and a 40-year-old mother was shot in the stomach.

NEW YORK CITY — Six people were shot and left injured — including a 12-year-old girl— following a shooting at a New York City convenience store on Monday.

The incident happened at G&W Grocery on White Plains Road near East 211th Street around 4:50 p.m., police said.

Two gunmen opened fire outside the store and their intended targets ran into the store to avoid getting shot, Interim Chief of Department John Chell said during a press briefing.

One of the intended targets grabbed a 40-year-old mother and used her as a human shield as she was shot in the stomach.

The 12-year-old girl was shot in the leg. Four other men suffered gunshot wounds to the arms and leg, police said.

The individual who used the mother as a human shield was not injured.

The victims were taken to local hospitals in stable condition.

Both gunmen fled the scene and remain at large as of Tuesday afternoon.

No arrests have been made, an investigation remains ongoing.
