7 Firefighters Injured In Bronx Explosion: Authorities

NEW YORK — Seven firefighters were injured in a dramatic explosion Wednesday evening in The Bronx, according to authorities.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. in the 900 block of Westchester Avenue, authorities said. Firefighters arrived to find vehicles and trash piles ablaze, and while they were at the scene, the explosion took place, according to the fire department.

A video circulating online Wednesday night showed the massive fireball.

Five of the injured suffered burns to the hands and face, and three were admitted to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi with burns considered serious but not life-threatening, according to the department.

The blaze was under control around 8:15 p.m., authorities said.

There were no civilian injuries, according to police, and the investigation is ongoing.
