7 Injured, Including 5 Firefighters, In 5-Alarm NYC Apartment Fire

NEW YORK CITY — Seven people were left injured — include five firefighters — after a five-alarm fire broke out at a New York City apartment building Friday morning.

The fire started at 2910 Wallace Ave. in the Bronx around 1:40 a.m., the FDNY said.

Heavy winds quickly escalated the blaze to fire alarms at the six-story building.

More than 250 emergency personnel responded to the scene, FDNY officials said.

"Heavy fire destroyed all the apartments on the top floor, burned through the roof," Chief of Department John Esposito said at a press conference.

Some 180 people were displaced due to the fire Friday morning, ABC 7 New York reported.

In addition to the two firefighters, five civilians suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the FDNY fire marshals.
