After Massive Layoffs, NY Daily News Looks To Hire Recruiter

The newspaper cut its editorial staff in half on July 23.

NEW YORK, NY – Days after a massive round of layoffs cut the New York Daily News' editorial workforce in half, the newspaper's owner is hiring again – for a senior recruiter.

The Chicago-based media giant tronc, which bought the News for $1 and the inheritance of its liabilities last year, fired all of its photographers, its social media team and many of its reporters on July 23. Its editor-in-chief, Jim Rich, was also laid off and tweeted: "If you hate democracy and think local governments should operate unchecked and in the dark, then today is a good day for you."

But in a job posting this week, the company began to search for a senior recruiter for its Jersey City and New York City offices.

"This role will support our New York Daily News client groups, primarily focusing on professional level positions across our Digital and Sales businesses," it reads.

The advert appeared on a job site called Built in NYC.

Just days after the massive round of layoffs, the News' owners reportedly planned to increase the newspaper's price from $1 to $1.50.
