NEW YORK, NY — Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to announce on Tuesday a plan to open up to 90 new homeless shelters throughout New York City, according to a report in the New York Times.
De Blasio's reported plans would increase the city's homeless shelters by a third at a time when the homeless population remains at a steady high. De Blasio has tried multiple avenues to combat one of the city's most persistent epidemics, and is expected on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the details of his latest vision for reducing the homeless population.

The Times did not report details of the proposed shelter expansion, but spoke to several people familiar with the plan and said the mayor is expected to discuss additional information during his press conference on Tuesday.
