  1. Republican Congressman-Elect George Santos has admitted to lying about his work experience and education during his campaign coming into the 2022 midterm elections, according to the New York Post. Santos was elected to serve a district encompassing parts of Queens and Long Island. Former co-workers confirmed to Patch last week that he previously worked in a Queens customer service center.   2. Six people were killed between Friday and Tuesday over a "bloody" Christmas weekend in Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx, including five shootings and one fatal stabbing according to the NYPD. (New York City Patch)
  3. In an interview, Mayor Eric Adams gave his administration a grade of a "solid B+" in his first year leading the city. One of his major focuses has been violent crime; while shootings and stabbings have both decreased over the past year, crime increased across all categories by 23 percent. (THE CITY)
  4. NYCHA Public Housing residents in East Harlem's Lincoln Houses were left without drinkable water or heat over Christmas weekend after a roof water tank spilled over in high winds, shutting down elevators in the 14-story building. (Subscription/New York Daily News)
    • Meanwhile, residents of a luxury apartment building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, say they have been experiencing heating outages and frequent gas breaks. (Gothamist)
  5. The MTA celebrated the subway's one billionth train rider this year, Sasha Salazar, in The Bronx on Tuesday. According to the New York Governor's office this is the first year the system has seen a billion riders since 2019 (compared to 640 million straphangers in 2020 and 760 million in 2021.)   • Police and prosecutors are investigating a string of fatal narcotic poisonings targeting at least five men in the past several months. (Associated Press)
  • Volunteers tabulated nearly 7,000 birds at Central Park's annual bird count the Sunday before Christmas. A Black-capped chickadee, a downy woodpecker and tufted titmice were just some of the species recorded. (Hell Gate)
