NEW YORK CITY — Clouds of Canadian wildfire smoke Wednesday in the sky over the city are sure to make New Yorkers go, "Eh?"

Smoke that drifted from wildfires in Nova Scotia is expected to make for hazy skies over the Big Apple until about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

"Patchy low-level smoke from wildfires in Nova Scotia will continue to linger around the area," the National Weather Service's New York office tweeted.

The plume of smoke comes from a wildfire along Canada's Atlantic coast that damaged roughly 200 houses and prompted the evacuation of 16,000 people.

New York City is no stranger to occasional smoky skies from distant wildfires.

Haze from West Coast wildfires blanketed the city in 2021 and left many New Yorkers awestruck by blood-red sunsets barely able to burn through the thick smoke.

The most recent wildfire smoke is much more diffuse, and won't last as long, forecasters said.

Widespread haze is expected all Wednesday, as are sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service's forecast. The smoke will give way to fog early Thursday, followed by a more-normal sight: mostly cloudy skies.
