NEW YORK CITY — Don't be a late bloomer to New York City's cherry blossom season.

"The first cherry blossoms have been spotted!" declared Brooklyn Botanic Garden's website.

Early blooming cherry varieties are starting to pop across the city.

In fact, some individual trees in Brooklyn Botanic Garden are already in peak bloom.

But New Yorkers shouldn't be worried about missing the extravaganza, or at least not yet.

Ornamental cherry trees, depending on the variety, will be in bloom between late March and mid-April.

"The anticipation of when peak bloom is going to happen, we can never know because there’s so many variables," Sara Evans, senior manager and curator of the living collection at The Green-Wood Cemetery, told Patch last season.

Evans recommended multiple visits to Green-Wood and other spots throughout the cherry blossom season to see the blooms in their full variety.

And where should New Yorkers go?

This year, New York City officials compiled a handy list of prime cherry peeping spots.

For planners, Central Park, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and New York Botanical Garden have dedicated trackers to tell what's in bloom. The Central Park And Brooklyn Botanic maps track cherry blossoms on a location-by-location or tree-by-tree basis.
