A Coffee Festival And LES Pickle Day | Manhattan This Weekend

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are some of the most interesting events Manhattan has to offer.

NEW YORK, NY — Manhattan has something to offer for everyone this weekend. Highlights include getting out and exploring the borough with Open Houses New York, taking a bite out of the Lower East Side's pickle festival and virtually exploring a 1950s Germany aircraft in Soho.

The New York City Coffee Festival

Neighborhood: Chelsea

What: This year's festival features 85 vendors with dozens of baristas serving up sample brews. Once you're good and wired, try your hand at latte art workshops, cupping classes and catch a speedy barista competition. There will also be plenty of street fare to pair with your caffeinated bevies. Tickets cost $29 in advance or $40 at the door.

Where: Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th Street

When: Friday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday from 9:30-6:30 p.m., Sunday from 9:30-4 p.m.


Open House New York

Neighborhood: Across Manhattan

What: Some 250 sites across the borough and city will open their doors to New Yorkers for the annual Open House New York. This year's event has been expanded to three days and boasts a staggering line-up of venues from historic farmhouses to breweries to dance halls. Some locations require reservations, but more than 140 sites can be visited for free and without advance notice. Peruse the full lineup of locations here.

When: Open House New York kicks off Friday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 14


OktoberFest In New York

Neighborhood: Financial District

What: If you can't make it to Munich this year try Lower Manhattan bar Watermark instead, which is hosting its last of four weekends of Oktoberfest festivities. Saturday and Sunday will be flowing with plenty of authentic German beer, along with fresh bratwurst and pretzels, lederhosen and a stein holding contest. General admission is free but there's also a roster of special packages.

Where: Watermark, Pier 15 at 78 South Street

When: Saturday and Sunday's festivities each start at noon


Lower East Side Pickle Day

Neighborhood: Lower East Side

What: Follow the sent of vinegar to Orchard Street where dozens of vendors will pack three blocks with an arrayed of pickled fare for sale. Face painters, a DJ and carnival games will also be on hand but it's the pickle's day to shine with more than 20 picklers hawking bread and butter pickles, gherkins, sweet pickles and more. Some might say it's kind of a big dill.

Where: Orchard Street between Delancey and East Houston streets

When: Noon to 5 p.m.


Fly Through Time: A celebration of the Golden Age of Aviation

Neighborhood: Soho

What: Germany's largest airline is hosting a historical aviation pop-up in Soho Sunday where guests can virtually board and explore the company's 1958 Lockheed Super Constellation L-1649A aircraft, which was top of the line in its day. A touch screen "augmented reality mirror" allows guests to dress themselves in vintage Lufthansa uniforms and '50s styles that would have been common among the era's passengers.

Where: Duarte Square at Sixth Avenue and Grand Street

When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
