Conviction for DA's Office in Lower East Side Hit-and-Run Case
The man was speeding down the Bowery when he hit a man crossing the street and sent him flying in the air, the DA said.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office won a conviction Thursday of a man who was speeding in the Lower East Side in November 2014 when he ran over and killed a 57-year-old man who was crossing the street.
Danny Lin, 25, was going 55 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone down the Bowery when he fatally struck Robert Perry, who went flying into the air for 140 feet before landing on the ground, according to the DA's office. Perry was crossing the Bowery near Rivington Street at 7 p.m.
After striking Perry, Lin drove onto the sidewalk and crashed into a fire hydrant, coming close to other pedestrians. Perry was taken to the hospital, where he died less than an hour later.

"This case serves as an unfortunate reminder of the risks associated with reckless driving and speeding," said District Attorney Vance. "Danny Lin was fully aware of those risks as he hurtled down the Bowery at more than double the speed limit and took an innocent man's life. He endangered the lives of pedestrians and drivers alike as he continued barreling down the street — with no regard for our laws or the safety of his fellow New Yorkers — before eventually crashing into a hydrant on a congested sidewalk, narrowly missing several bystanders. Because of the defendant’s recklessness and disregard for human life, my office has fought to hold him accountable and will seek significant penalties for his criminal conduct."
Lin was found guilty of manslaughter in the second degree and is set to be sentenced on Sept. 27.
