Here are the top five stories today in New York City:

  1. An NYPD officer was seen apparently filming concertgoers leaving a Drake show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, raising concerns over police surveillance in a now-viral video. The local precinct said the film would be used for a social media post. (New York City Patch)
  2. More than a dozen city workers terminated over not complying with a vaccine mandate have won court cases requiring they be reinstated. They are some of the over a thousand NYC municipal workers that have been terminated because of the mandate, first put in place by Mayor Bill de Blasio. (THE CITY)
  3. The Adams administration plans to open a new 1,000-bed facility to house recently arrived migrants at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, sparking criticism from the Legal Aid Society and Coalition for the Homeless that its location is in a flood zone, and it could be difficult for residents to access public services. (AMNY)
  4. Roland Conner is opening the first NYC cannabis dispensary run by a person directly impacted by the criminal justice system for a marijuana-related conviction (and second overall). The retail location is located in the West Village, but it's only going to be open for a few weeks as a "pop-up" before closing for renovation work. (THE CITY)
  5. New York City police are increasing security and antiterrorism measures during Lunar New Year celebrations, which began over the weekend, after a mass-shooting in a Monterey Park, California dance studio frequented by members of the Asian community left at least 10 people dead. The NYPD said they had not identified any confirmed threat in the city. (Gothamist)
