De Blasio Zoomed Back From Vacation On $3M NYPD Plane: Report
The plane reportedly ferried the mayor from Canada to Westchester County and back so he could speak at a Bronx event.

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD flew Mayor Bill de Blasio to a Bronx ceremony honoring a slain cop on the department's $3 million plane, according to a new report. The mayor took a break from his vacation in Quebec to attend a Thursday street-renaming ceremony for Det. Miosotis Familia, who was killed while on duty in the Bronx a year ago.
To get there, de Blasio flew from Montreal to Westchester County Airport on the NYPD's Cessna Caravan outfitted with equipment that can detect substances used in dirty bombs, the New York Post reported.
The plane, which the NYPD reportedly acquired last year, is kept at MacArthur Airport on Long Island, according to the Post.

The flight-tracking website FlightAware shows just one flight from MacArthur to Montreal-Trudeau Airport on Thursday — a Caravan with a reportedly NYPD-affiliated tail number took off at 6:36 a.m. and arrived in Canada at 8:18 a.m.
The plane left Montreal at 9:09 a.m. and arrived in Westchester County at 10:58 a.m., FlightAware shows — about an hour before the mayor was slated to speak at the Bronx ceremony. It left Westchester at 1:48 p.m. and arrived in Montreal at 3:34 p.m. before heading back to Long Island, according to the website.

The NYPD and the mayor's office wouldn't tell the Post how much the trip cost. A round-trip ticket between Montreal-Trudeau and LaGuardia Aiport on Friday went for as little as $364.
"The NYPD, as a longstanding matter of policy, does not comment on specific details regarding the protection of elected officials," a spokesman told the Post. "However, careful consideration is made to ensure that the work of the security detail has no impact on other NYPD operations."
