Deputy Mayor Phil Banks Resigns, Latest Adams Adminstration Exit

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the news in television appearances on NY1 and FOX5 Monday morning.

NEW YORK CITY — Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks has resigned from his position, becoming the latest member of the Adams administration to leave amid a federal corruption probe.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the news in interviews with PIX11 and FOX5, adding that Banks had handed in his resignation on Sunday.

"I wish my good friend well," Adams said.

"We spoke yesterday, we spoke again this morning, and he stated he wants to transition to other things with his life, and he doesn't want this to be a constant burden on the work that we're doing," Adams added.

Phil Banks' brother David, who served as the city's schools chancellor, will be stepping down later this month.

Six members of the administration have left since last month's raided by federal agents on Sept. 4., including NYPD commissioner Edward Caban, Chief legal counsel Liza Zornberg , top aide Tim Pearson and health commissioner Ashwin Vasan.

The mayor disclosed the deputy mayor for public safety had discussed leaving his position months ago.

Adams chose not to comment when asked about the reports of Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright stepping down.
