Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright Resigns, Adams Names Successor

NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Eric Adams is expected to fill deputy mayor's Sheena Wright position after she officially resigned Tuesday morning.

The New York Times first reported the development. Previous published reports had indicted Wright would resign as soon as last Friday.

Maria Torres-Springer, who serves as the deputy mayor for housing, economic development and workforce, was officially announced as Wright's replacement Tuesday afternoon.

"This is my life's work, and I'm humbled that I get to continue this work in my new role," Torres-Springer told reporters.

Wright's resignation comes after Governor Kathy Hochul reportedly told Mayor Eric Adams to make personnel changes following Tim Pearson's departure, Patch previously reported.

Wright's home was among those raided by federal authorities on Sept. 4. Six high-profile members of the administration have since left.

Earlier this morning, three aides to Mayor Eric Adams left the administration amidst an ongoing federal corruption probe.
