'Die,' Armed Man Told Cop Before Getting Shot: NYPD
A police officer shot a man who pulled out a gun and put it to the cop's chest during a Sunday evening struggle, the NYPD said.

THE BRONX, NY — A police officer shot a man in The Bronx Sunday evening who put a gun to his chest and told him to "die" during a struggle, the NYPD said.
A pair of cops approached the man at about 6:50 p.m. Sunday after he broke into the back right window of a white BMW parked near the corner of 166th Street and Summit Avenue, Chief of Department Terence Monahan said.
The cops got into a struggle with the man when they tried to arrest him after he pulled out keys that did not match the car, according to Monahan.

Eventually the man allegedly said, "I have a gun, (expletive), die," and one of the cops shot then shot him in the torso and the hip, Monahan said.
The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital and was undergoing surgery Sunday night, the chief said. Cops covered a loaded Ruger handgun from the scene, he said.

The cop later told other officers that the man had put a gun to his chest during the altercation, Monahan said. Both the officer's comment and the man's threat were caught on police body camera video, according to the chief.
