Pooch Rescued From Subway Tracks After Ruining NYers' Commutes

A dog had its day in New York City's subways and everyone on the 4, 5 and 6 lines suffered.

NEW YORK CITY — Call it MTA's dog day afternoon.

A wayward pooch caused transit chaos Thursday after it somehow escaped onto subway tracks, prompting MTA crews to hold all 4, 5 and 6 line trains in their Manhattan stations for about an hour.

"This dog better be Lassie with all the trouble we're going through," one frustrated straphanger tweeted.

Details were still scant late Thursday afternoon, but an NYPD spokesperson told Patch that police first received a report of a dog running on the tracks between stations along the 6 line near 77th Street about 3:20 p.m.

The dog eventually was rescued and returned to its owner, an MTA spokesperson told Patch about 4:15 p.m.

Some unconfirmed tweets from straphangers stated the dog was found under or near a 6 train.

"They just found her in the 23rd street 6 train— on the tracks !" one tweet stated. "Electricity off and police are trying to lure the dog out from under the train."

Both NYPD and MTA officials referred Patch to each other for more details on the rescue.

The safe rescue didn't necessarily mean a happy ending for commuters.

Trains along the 4, 5 and 6 lines ran with extensive delays about 4:45 p.m., long after the pup went home, according to an MTA alert.
