Eric Garner's Mom Arrested at Anti-Trump Protest

Police said Eric Garner's mother Gwen Carr was among 11 people arrested at a protest outside of Trump Tower on Tuesday night.

MANHATTAN, NY — Eric Garner's mother was among 11 people arrested on Tuesday at a protest outside of Trump Tower, police said.

Gwen Carr and 10 other people were charged with disorderly conduct while protest Donald Trump's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, police confirmed to Patch. Carr's son Garner was killed in 2014 when an NYPD officer placed him in a chokehold on Staten Island. Garner's death was one of a number of police killings of black Americans that brought police-community relations to the forefront of the national conversation.

Ashley Sharpton, Rev. Al Sharpton's daughter, was also among those charged with disorderly conduct, according to police.

The protestors had gathered outside of Trump Tower, 725 Fifth Ave., to demonstrate against Neil Gorsuch, the president's pick to fill the vacant seat on the highest court in the country. Trump had announced the nomination earlier on Tuesday night. Organizers from the National Action Network posted photos of its leadership being arrested at the protests on Tuesday night.
