Ex-NBA Head David Stern Hospitalized For Sudden Brain Hemorrhage

NEW YORK — David Stern, who served as commissioner of the NBA for three decades and stepped down in 2014, has been hospitalized in New York City after suffering a "sudden brain hemorrhage."

The NBA said in a statement Thursday evening that Stern underwent emergency surgery.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family," the NBA said.

Stern, 77, was at the Brasserie 8 1/2 restaurant near Central Park in Manhattan when he collapsed, ESPN reported. He was immediately rushed to a hospital.

The FDNY told media outlets it was called around 2 p.m. Thursday for a cardiac arrest.
