Ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner Eyes City Council Run, Political Comeback

NEW YORK CITY — Disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner is eyeing a possible political comeback and is exploring a run for a Manhattan city council seat.

Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after admitting to sending explicit photos to several women. In 2013, Weiner tried to make a comeback to run for mayor, but was once again embroiled in a scandal after it found he had sent explicit photos under the name "“Carlos Danger.”

According to campaign finance records, Weiner is listed as a candidate for a council seat in Lower Manhattan.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Weiner said he is “still exploring” whether to actually campaign for elected office.

He told the outlet, he opened a campaign committee so he could participate in a forum held by the Downtown Independent Democrats later this week.

In his weekly radio show on 77WABC, Weiner has said he "wasn't done with politics."

Weiner first took office in 1999 and served for 12 years before resigning in disgrace following his sexting scandal.

In 2016, Weiner was accused of sexting a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina, leading to his laptop being seized. The former congressman checked himself into rehab and in 2017 was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

He was released in 2019 and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
