NEW YORK CITY — A renowned Italian restaurant in Manhattan frequented by celebrities has apparently been concealing its true city-issued, cleanliness-rating, according to a new report.

Health inspectors scolded Carbone, located on Thompson Street, in July for not posting its "B" grade cleanliness-rating, the New York Post reported.

Restaurants in the city are required to display their grades in front of the restaurant where it can be visible at all times.

Health officials found five violations last month at the restaurant, ranging from not storing temperature controlled food correctly and “deficient” washing of dishes, utensils and equipment.

Carbone received 17 health department points in the July inspection. In 2024, they got 21 points and in 2023 the restaurant racked up 22 points.

An inspection score between 0 and 13 points receives an A rating, and 14 to 27 is scored a B, according to the city’s website.

Restaurants that get to 28 or more points get a C grade.
