Good morning, New York City! I'm back from a Thanksgiving break over the past few days and more excited than ever to bring you the latest local headlines from across the five boroughs.

  1. Mayor Eric Adams signed a series of bills on Monday aimed at diversifying the ranks of the New York City Fire Department, including new diversity hiring measures and looking into adding gender-specific facilities such as locker rooms. (New York City Patch)
  2. Two police officers are being honored for rescuing a man who fell into the tracks in the 116th Street 6 subway station on Thanksgiving Day. After a good Samaritan screamed for help, they sprinted from the Uptown to Downtown side of the platform and sprang into action, the NYPD says. (New York City Patch)
  3. The "East Side Access" project to bring Long Island Railroad trains into Grand Central will now be allowed to open by the end of the year, after a federal agency temporarily waived a requirement that had threatened to hold it up. (Gothamist)
  4. Long COVID-19 symptoms are most prevalent in Latino communities across New York City and in The Bronx, an analysis of a Department of Health survey finds. Experts say that could likely be due to a higher prevalence of underlying conditions in those communities, including Type 2 diabetes and HIV. (THE CITY)
  5. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg moved to dismiss charges against a nurse who was accused of killing her husband, which she alleges was in self-defense. She was first arrested in 2020. (AMNY)
