THE BRONX, NY — A Bronx man bit an FDNY medic in the back of an ambulance Friday night as they were on the way to a hospital, authorities said.

The emergency medical technician responded to a report of a person drunk or high on drugs at a residence on Mount Hope Place near Jerome Avenue at about 8:25 p.m., a fire department spokesperson said.

The medic was taking the man — whom police identified as Thomas Wright — to Lincoln Hospital in the ambulance when Wright chomped on his left shoulder, the NYPD said.

The unidentified EMT suffered pain and swelling to his shoulder and cops charged Wright, 32, with three counts of assault and one count of harassment, a police spokesperson said.

Wright could face up to seven years in prison under a state law that imposes more severe penalties for attacks on EMTs. The FDNY outfitted its ambulances with decals highlighting the consequences of assaulting a medic.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said the department's "thoughts and prayers are with our seriously injured EMT."

"FDNY EMS members perform dangerous work thousands of times a day responding to medical calls and protecting New Yorkers," Nigro said in a statement. "An assault on one of our brave members is a despicable act."
