Fort Hamilton High School Cleared After Search For Gun
Reports of a gun inside the school were "unfounded," the Department of Education said.

BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN — Classes resumed at Fort Hamilton High School on Wednesday afternoon after a fruitless two-hour search for a gun, officials said.
The school at 8301 Shore Road in Bay Ridge was put on temporary lockdown after a student reported seeing a gun in the building at 10:24 a.m., the NYPD said.
Police searched the building and "determined the reports were unfounded," a spokeswoman for the city Department of Education, Miranda Barbot, said in a statement.

"The building has been cleared, students and staff are safe, and families are being notified," Barbot said.
An NYPD spokesman was not aware of any arrests in connection with the scare.

Police officials quickly dispelled rumors of an active shooter at the school as reports of a weapon first came out Wednesday morning.
The school serves students in Bay Ridge, Sunset Park and Dyker Heights.

Fort Hamilton High School Incident Update: No suspect is in custody and no confirmation of a weapon to be found in the school, however NYPD continuing a room by room, floor by floor search of the building.
