Fourth Person Presumed Dead After Boat Sinks In NYC Waters

NEW YORK CITY — A fourth person is presumed dead after a boat sank off the coast of Breezy Point, Queens on Monday, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard called off its search Monday evening after failing to locate the last person who was aboard the Grady White, a vessel that sank after taking on water on Sunday.

The last missing person has been identified as Vernon Glasford, of the Bronx.

"The decision to suspend a search is always difficult," Capt. Jonathan Andrechik, the commander of Coast Guard Sector New York. "Though our active search has ended, our support and sympathy remain with all those impacted by this tragic incident.”

Three people died, and two others were hospitalized following the incident, Patch previously reported.

The boat was found sinking in the Ambrose Channel. Three Coast Guard rescue boats responded to the scene and pulled five individuals from the water.

Three people were pronounced dead at local hospitals and two others were sent for treatment in critical condition, according to multiple media reports.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
