Friday Last Day To Prepay NYC Taxes In Person
You can still pay online or by mail until Sunday.
NEW YORK, NY — There are only a few more days to get the biggest discount possible from New York City property taxes. Friday is the last day to prepay 2018 property taxes in person so they can be fully deducted from federal income tax returns in the spring.
The federal tax overhaul President Donald Trump signed last week limits itemized deductions for local property, income and sales taxes to $10,000. But New Yorkers can get around part the limit by paying next year's property taxes by Dec. 31.
The city Department of Finance is currently accepting property tax payments for the first six months of 2018.

New Yorkers can submit payments on the department's website until Sunday, spokeswoman Aziza Taylor said. Any mailed checks should be postmarked by Sunday to be counted.
Anyone looking to pay in person at a Department of Finance business center must do so by the close of business on Friday, Taylor said.

Tax experts recommend that the city's property owners pay property taxes early to take full advantage of the existing deduction rules. The changes that go into effect next year will be a big hit to the third of New York City taxpayers who itemize their deductions.
