Funeral for NYPD Officer Didarul Islam To Take Place Thursday
A private tribute and prayer service Islam's family will be held at the mosque Thursday afternoon.

NEW YORK CITY — The funeral for NYPD officer Didarul Islam who was killed in a Midtown shooting on Monday is set to take place on Thursday at a mosque in the Bronx, according to The Police Benevolent Association.
Viewings are scheduled to take place until noon, with separate viewings for men and women at Parkchester Jame Masjid, officials said.
Islam was married and a father to two young boys. His wife is pregnant and is due with their third child next month, according to this family.

The 36-year-old had worked at the 47th precinct in Baychester and was on the force for the last three and a half yeaers.
Islam was off-duty but in uniform working security at 375 Park Ave. when the shooting occurred on Monday. The police officer was one of four victims in the shooting.

“He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch said on Monday. “He died as he lived. A hero.”
Islam is the first NYPD officer of Bangladeshi descent to be killed in the line of duty.
A dignified transfer of the police officer's body from the city's medical examiner office to the Bronx mosque took place on Tuesday.
An autopsy report revealed that Islam suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and arm.
