Get Into These NYC Museums Free With Your Library Card

NEW YORK, NY — The steep ticket price is no longer an excuse for putting off a visit to the Guggenheim Museum. New Yorkers can now get into that and 32 other cultural landmarks for free with their library cards through the city's new "Culture Pass" program.

The initiative for cardholders in the city's three library systems offers free admission to 33 cultural institutions across the city, from the Museum of Modern Art to the New York Transit Museum.

All you have to do is visit culturepass.nyc and reserve a pass in advance with your card from the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library or Queens Library. The program covers one visit a year to each participating establishment. Cardholders can reserve passes for up to two institutions at a time, according to the website.

Some of the participating institutions, such as the Brooklyn Museum, already have suggested admission prices, meaning visitors can pay what they want. But the discount will come in handy at places such as the Guggenheim and the Whitney Museum of American Art, where an adult ticket generally costs $25.

"Some people are intimidated by museums," Brooklyn Public Library President Linda Johnson told The New York Times. "They shouldn’t be shut out of all the wonderful cultural offerings that are available to New York City dwellers."
