Global Tech Outage Grounds Dozens of Flights At NYC Airports
Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike and Microsoft have said the outage was not caused by a cyberattack.
NEW YORK CITY — A global Microsoft outage caused by an update issue has not only disrupted computer systems but has grounded dozens of flights at New York City airports, according to multiple media reports.
As of Friday morning, LaGuardia Airport has canceled 30 flights and delayed 10, according to the New York Post.
JFK Airport has canceled 16 flights following the global IT systems outage. American, Delta and United were among the airlines affected.

Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike and Microsoft have said the cause of the global outage had been fixed as of early Friday and the outage was not due to a cyberattack, according to an NBC News report.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is reporting that buses, subways as well as LIRR and Metro-North trains are currently running on normal schedules.

We are monitoring the global technical outage involving #Crowdstrike and assessing its full impact it may have on city operations. Right now, critical infrastructure and emergency operations — including our city's 911 system — have not been impacted. All relevant city agencies and IT departments will continue to prioritize the situation today and release updates," New York City government wrote in a statement on X.
