Ground Stops Issued At NYC Airports Due to Storm, Delays Expected

LaGuardia Airport issued the ground stop at 2:10 p.m. and John F. Kennedy Airport issued its ground stop five minutes later.

NEW YORK CITY — Both airports in New York City have issued ground stops as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the area.

LaGuardia Airport issued the ground stop at 2:10 p.m. and John F. Kennedy Airport issued its ground stop five minutes later, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and National Airspace System status.

The ground stop is slated to be lifted by 4:30 p.m. but residual delays are expected to continue throughout the night, officials said.

Currently, there are 350 delays at JFK and 160 cancellations. LaGuardia has nearly 300 delays and 233 cancellations.

“Forecasted weather conditions may cause flight disruptions at JFK Airport. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight,” JFK airport's official account wrote on X.

The New York City Emergency Management department has issued a travel advisory for Tuesday into Wednesday.

In addition, The National Weather Service has issued a citywide flood watch in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday, until 12 p.m. Wednesday.
