"Hamilton": New Leads Announced for Later This Summer

A new Hamilton is coming July 11.

Broadway's smash hit "Hamilton" has new leads slated for later this summer, with the role of Alexander Hamilton played by Lin-Manuel Miranda set to be played by his alternate, Javier Muñoz, starting July 11. The part of Aaron Burr will be played by Brandon Victor Dixon starting in mid-August, and the role of Eliza Hamilton will be played by Lexie Lawson starting July 11.

Dixon's most famous role is Harpo in "The Color Purple," which he created and for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for the part of Eubie Blake in the musical "Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed" on Broadway. Muñoz has been playing the part of Hamilton every Sunday as of the spring of 2016. Notably, he performed the role when President Barack Obama and his family went to see the show. Lawson has performed the role of Mimi in "RENT" and was also in Miranda's show "In the Heights" from 2009-2011.
