How NYC Ranks Among Best Paying Cities For Jobs
U.S. News & World Report ranked cities based on how many well-paying jobs they had.

NEW YORK, NY – If you can make it here, you've got a good chance at landing one of the top paying jobs in the country. More well compensated positions can be found in New York City than almost anywhere else in the country, according to a new set of rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report.
The publication also published its annual list of what it considers the 100 best jobs and the best paying jobs for 2019.
When it comes to jobs with the highest rate of pay, only San Francisco and San Jose in California topped New York.

- Bridgeport, Connecticut

- Nassau County, New York

- Newark, New Jersey

- Silver Spring, Maryland
- Urban Honolulu, Hawaii
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Seattle, Washington

U.S. News executive editor Kim Castro says wages aren’t the only thing working in employees’ favor in 2019.

“To lure and retain workers, companies are also boosting the benefits they provide, offering flexible hours and remote work opportunities while investing in individuals’ personal and professional development – all reasons why software developer continues to top the best jobs list,” Castro said.
According to U.S. News, the top jobs on its 100 best list are:
- Software Developer
- Statistician
- Physician Assistant
- Dentist
- Orthodontist
- Nurse Anesthetist
- Nurse Practitioner
- Pediatrician
- Obstetrician and Gynecologist
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
- Prosthodontist
- Physician

The list of the top 100 jobs is created by scoring seven components on a scale of 0 to 10. The measures include median salary, work-life balance, stress level and employment rate. (You can see the full methodology here.)
