NEW YORK, NY — It's the New Year's Eve party watched by the world. Thousands of people will pack into Times Square to say goodbye to 2021 and welcome the new year Friday, but millions more will watch it live on TV or computer screens.

The ball drop will be livestreamed by the Times Square Alliance from 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

While COVID-19 forced the cancellation of a live Times Square New Year's Eve party to welcome in 2021, the decision was made to let this year's go ahead – despite the city being hit hard by the virus's omicron variant.

Only 15,000 vaccinated people will be allowed into the viewing areas on Dec. 31, compared to the typical capacity of 58,000.
