Jets Assistant Coach Knapp In Critical Condition After Bike Crash

SAN RAMON, CA — New York Jets passing game specialist Greg Knapp is in critical condition after a car hit him while he was riding a bike in the San Francisco Bay Area, Denver's 9News first reported.

San Ramon Police Lt. Tami Williams told 9News that the department would share updates on its social media accounts when new details were available. No updates had been posted as of this writing.

Knapp's family thanked people for their support and joined Coach Robert Saleh in asking for prayers in a statement Tuesday by the Jets. Saleh called the crash a "horrific accident."

"Greg is an amazing father and husband whose passion for life can be felt in all his interactions with people. He is our rock and biggest supporter, pushing us to all strive to better ourselves each day with constant love and inspiration," his family said. "While many know him for his achievements as a coach, his impact as a father and husband are far greater. We are so fortunate to have him in our lives."

Knapp was raised in the Southern California city of Seal Beach and was a quarterback at California State University, Sacramento from 1982 to 1985, according to his Jets bio. He coached at his alma mater before he began his National Football League career and coached quarterbacks and offensive linemen for the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons before joining the Jets this year.

"Greg is such an amazing individual it is hard to imagine the challenge facing him and his family," Saleh said. "Greg's fun nature, kind disposition, and wealth of knowledge has allowed him to make genuine connections with all of our coaches, players and staff since he has been here."
