July 4 Fireworks Show Wows NYC

More than 75,000 fireworks helped the city celebrate the country's 242nd birthday.

NEW YORK, NY – With 75,000 fireworks, 3 million spectators lined along the shores of the East River and many, many more tuned in on TV, New York City wished America a happy 242nd birthday with a party that led the nation.

The 25-minute extravaganza shot off from seven barges moored in the river, with more than 3,000 explosions per minute wowing the crowds.

This year the show, the 42nd organized by Macy's, included 25 colors and effects that include neon pinwheels, swirling water fountains, brocade horse tails, ghosting fans, blooming ring chases and pulsing hearts.

It was launched by a rendition of "God Bless America" by Kelly Clarkson.
