Man Charged For New Year’s Day NYC Subway Stabbing: NYPD

The 52-year-old has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, ​with other charges pending.

NEW YORK CITY — A 52-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged with stabbing a man aboard a Manhattan subway train on New Year's Day.

Jamar Banks was taken into custody on Sunday. He last resided at a Brooklyn homeless shelter, police said.

The 52-year-old has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, with other charges pending, police said.

On Jan 1., Banks is accused of getting into an argument with a 35-year-old man aboard a northbound 2 train at the 14 Street and 7 Avenue station around 9:40 a.m, police said.

Banks then allegedly stabbed the victim in the back.

The 35-year-old victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Banks is also connected to the stabbing of a 47-year-old MTA worker on Jan. 2 on a northbound 5 train platform at the Pelham Parkway station in the Bronx.

In the Bronx incident, Banks displayed a knife and stabbed the victim in the armpit and back following an argument, police said.

The MTA worker was treated at Jacobi Hospital.

Banks has yet to be charged in the Bronx attack as of Monday afternoon.
