NYC Man Who Fatally Stabbed Woman 40 Times Sent To Prison

Officers found Assamad Nash hiding under the mattress of the woman's bed and a bloodied kitchen knife hidden behind the dresser.

NEW YORK CITY — A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years-to-life in state prison for fatally stabbing a 35-year-old woman after he followed her inside her Manhattan apartment building, prosecutors announced.

Assamad Nash pled guilty to second degree murder and burglary charges in June, prosecutors said.

On February 13, 2022, Nash followed Christina Yuna Lee inside her apartment building in Chinatown and up six flights of stairs to her apartment, prosecutors said.

As Lee attempted to enter her apartment, Nash ran up behind her, pushed his way inside and attempted to sexually assault her, prosecutors said.

Lee's neighbors heard her screams for help and called 911. Officers who arrived at the scene were unable to break down the apartment door — it took them over an hour to finally gain entry to the apartment, prosecutors said.

Nash attempted to flee the apartment through the fire escape but went back inside after spotting a police officer on the roof above him, prosecutors said.

Officers found Nash hiding under the mattress of Lee’s bed and a bloodied kitchen knife hidden behind the dresser.

In the bathroom, officers found Lee with at least 40 stab wounds, including to her head, neck and torso.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said.

“Christina Yuna Lee was killed in an unthinkably horrific manner in her own apartment at the hands of Assamad Nash,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement. “Ms. Yuna Lee was a creative, kind and joyful person and her death not only devastated her family but left a lasting impact on an entire community. I hope the resolution of this case offers comfort and a sense of justice for everyone that has been touched by Ms. Yuna Lee’s life and this tragedy. May her legacy be celebrated for years to come.”
