Man Found Dead in Tompkins Square Park Tuesday

The 52-year-old man was found dead in the early morning on Tuesday, officers said.

A 52-year-old man was found dead in Tompkins Square Park early Tuesday morning, the NYPD said. The man's body was discovered at 6:54 a.m. Witnesses said he was found sitting with his back against a tree.

Some witnesses wrote to the East Village blog EV Grieve that emergency responders were on the scene around 7 a.m. The man was found in the southeast entrance of the park on Avenue B and Seventh Street, according to a correspondent from EV Grieve.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, cops said. The medical examiner performed an examination but was still waiting for results and investigating the cause of death, a spokesperson from the office said Wednesday.
