Love your dog? Then why are you feeding them commercial “pet grade” dog food?
Would you eat your dog’s food? Sounds like a rhetorical question — because we all know commercial dog food is made from things humans wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole, let alone a dining fork.
Dr. Janice Elenbaas had a different idea. She loved her pups too much to give them anything but whole foods she’d serve her own family — grass-fed beef, chicken and fish, along with barley, rice, tomatoes, even extra virgin olive oil. Fifteen years ago, she and her husband started Lucky Dog Cuisine and offered their recipes to dog lovers everywhere. Their guiding principle: if you wouldn’t eat it yourself, why would you feed it to your dog?

Here are the top five stories today in New York City:
- Mayor Eric Adams sparked uproar after appearing to dismiss the need for a separation of church and state at an interfaith breakfast on Tuesday. Among his remarks, he said "When we took prayers out of schools, guns came into schools," drawing criticism from the New York Civil Liberties Union among others. His press secretary said the remarks represented just his personal views. (New York City Patch)
- A series of four demotions of high-ranking officials in the fire department will lead to an "unimaginable level of unpreparedness" and impede the FDNY's ability to put out blazes, a new lawsuit argues. Newly-appointed Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh had demoted the chiefs, who she said were "bad apples," in February. (New York City Patch)
- Seventy households that were displaced by Hurricane Ida in the fall of 2021 were moved out of a Lower Manhattan hotel yesterday. Ten of them secured permanent housing, while others said they would stay with friends and family, and others still are planning to move to shelters. (Gothamist)
- Parents and teachers in New York City public schools have until March 14 to fill out a survey to participate in a working group the state plans on creating. The group will create strategies for reducing class size, in compliance with a state law passed last year. (City & State)
- A labor arbiter has stalled the MTA's planned reduction of rush hour subway service on the 1, 6, 7, E, F, L and Q lines–which would have also included an increase on several other lines. The arbiter said it was a violation of union contracts. (New York Daily News)
